I am again in touch with Kyriakoulla after all this time.  She has raised a beautiful family in Athens but remembers Phlamoudhi with heart-wrenching fondness.

In the summer my friends lived under an arbor by the sea, grew eggplants, and made charcoal in immense smoking mounds.  As it was near the excavation, I stopped by in the morning and evening after recording the days digging.

The archaeological team improved the road to the site near the chapel, which was declared a miracle; and the chapel was again visited by the priest from town as well as the holy ghost.

The excavation hired a guard to sleep by the site so people would not be tempted to loot it for items to sell on the antiquities market. (Not so much as a tenth of a pot was found intact in this earthquake- and war-ridden site.)
